There are countless variations of power state that we have had success flashing macs with.

If you have successfully flashed the EFI of a mac, please take the time to post here. It will greatly help us identify causes, and assist newcomers too.

example:

Early 2015 MacBook Pro Retina A1502 EMC2835
2.7ghz/8gb/128gb
tool:EFIDL
battery:connected
magsafe:connected
powered on:at EFI lock screen
VCC&GND:disconnected

or

Mid 2012 MacBook Air A1466 EMC 2559
1.7ghz/4gb/256gb
tool:raspberrypi
battery:disconnected
magsafe:connected
powered on:no
VCC&GND:connected

feel free to add any other notes you find useful.
thanks for your support

Device: MACBOOK PRO i5 2.5GHZ MID 2012
Model: A1278
EMC: 2554
Board ID: 820-xxxx-B
Chip: MX25L6406E
Chip Size: 8388608
RDID: C2200000
JEDEC: C22017C2
Pre-WREN RDSR: 0x00!
Post-WREN RDSR: 0x02

SPI Programmer & Adapters
Adapter: SOIC8
EFID Lite: YES
Flashrom: YES

Power State
Magsafe: YES & NO
Battery: YES

Programming Results

EFI Destroyer [Lite]: YES
EASY FLASH [ADAPTERS]: NO
The board doesn’t have the header port needed for the easy flash adapters to connect.

NOTES: You will need to purchase a “PONOMA 5250 TEST CLIP” online to access this board through the soic chip. The ponoma clip works flawlessly with the destroyer light so no worries. Here is the wiring diagram showing the two connected together and how I modified the clip.

You will notice Pin# 3, 7, and 8 on the clip have to be connected together. I achieved this by soldiering pin 7 and 8 together and running a wire to from there to pin 3. Use a Samsung wall charger to power the device making sure not to exceed 5vdc. Once the destroyer shows the password was removed you need to clear the NVRAM. To do this you hit power and then hold down the “command, option, p, and r buttons until the mac reboots and you here the start up chime. Release the buttons and you have successfully unlocked the device. Use the OS X installer and its yours!

Thanks for the support guys!

Much Luv,
Evildxtreme

i would recommend soldering a 4way wiring splice, instead of bridging the pomona.
that totally works, but if you need the pomona for something else...

2.3ghz/16gb/512gb
tool:EFIDL
battery:connected
magsafe:disconnected
powered on:at EFI lock screen

Was able to get to ALT boot and disk utility, but booting into os got me to a lock screen. Did a NVRAM reset and it cleared up the OS lock, "disabled for 60 minutes"

Macbook Air 2012 13, A1466, EMC 2559
1.8Ghz/4Gb/128Gb SSD

tool: Raspberry Pi with EasyFlash adapter V4.0.2
Battery: connected
Magsafe: disconnected
Was powering on to: EFI Password lock screen
VCC & GND connected
Replaced characters between $SVS markers with 0xFF
CMD-ALT-P-R three times.
SSD already had MacOS installed via another Mac - not original operating system/EFI Password installed with this MacBook

Replaced serial number due to replacement board.
Found serial number in the SPI ROM bin file and replaced with serial number from the old board.
Flashed back to SPI ROM and all is good.

Note : EFI Dump from EFI Repository didn't have <Model-number> markers, so I just replaced the serial number from the .bin file

GUIDE: How to Easy Read, Erase, Modify and Write, quad enabled efi chips!!

Tested on Macbook Pro A1398 EMC 2910 with efi chip MX25L6473E

steps:

1. Power on Macbook, then close lid (sleep mode)
2. Disassembly you macbook, get the logicboard out (don't be afraid. Search help on ifixit if you don't know how)
3. Find efi chip and desolder it with hot air
4. With solder iron put some solder on chip 8 pins. That will make better contact with soic clips
5. Put efi chip in soic clips. Watch for orientation
6. On panoma clips connect only pin 1 CS#, pin 2 Data output, pin 4 GND, pin 8 VCC, pin 6 CLK and pin 5 Data input
7. Power on raspberry, start flashrom enter command for read, then erase, then modify rom on your pc, and write it back. Yes it is SO EASY. No write protection!
8. Solder back efi chip to logicboard
9. Assembly your mac, do a PRAM reset, reinstall mac os and click thanks :)

I have uploaded some pictures. Take a look

Late 2012 MacBook Pro Retina A1398 EMC2512
2.3ghz/16gb/512gb
tool: EFIDL
battery: Disconnected
magsafe: Connected
powered on: ALT boot after NVRAM reset
VCC&GND: Connected

Referring to the current A1398 EMC 2512 google drive guide, I was skeptical I would get it.
The first 2 tries with the v4.0.1 clip did NOT work. Power cycled and after that was I able to have a successful flash

Late 2011 MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz i7 A1286 EMC 2563*
tool: rapsi SPI method
EFI: from repository on this site. (edited for correct serial#)
battery: Disconnected
magsafe: Disconnected
powered on: White screen, rebooted with NVRAM reset and it booted normally.

Cheers!

PS: System was giving SOS beeps prior to reflashing EFI. I was able to read existing EFI however it had some type of corruption that prevented it from loading. Used the EFI from the repository and change the serial number, all goodness now.

Chip: MX25L6406E
Method: Raspberry Pi w/ Flashrom (SPI)
Unplugged, Powered Off (Obviously)
Connection: GPIO cables to SOIC8 Clip

Pulled the EFI, erased password, and wrote it back to the chip. Cleared PRAM on boot and it works like new again!

2014 MBA-A1465, EMC 2631
I5,128GB, 4GB
TOOL USED- EFIDL
ADAPTER USED - REBELSIM
BATTERY CONNECTED- NO POWER CORD

"Plugged in usb to EFIDL then put on board with in 15-20 secs blinked green and MacBook unlocked" I then noticed Serial number was erased so had to dl blank board serializer and install correct serial number. no problems at all.

"Side note unlocked 2 more MBA 2014 same exact ones tonight and serial number was present so I have no idea why serial number got erased before maybe because the 1st unlock I stuck the EFIDL on board after it was already unlocked and it blinked all over?? However everything with successful and special thanks to Reverendalc who walked me though much of the process and has helped me the entire time. I would of ordered the adapter for MBA from GH but I already wasted $160 buying cheap knock off Eeprom reader and bundled pack of shit from RebelSim the only thing he sold me that was decent was the MBA adapter and I got lucky he gave me 2 of them accidentally.

Also I bought a tool similar to Kaden's except doesn't need the licenses and also has all the connections built into 1 cable for all MBA however the destroyer is easier to use the because with his tool you have to pin point exact probe location to activate the chip which if you put it in wrong spot and or move barely with probe you mess up/potentially brick MACBOOK. I will use his on some and the EFIDL on all ones that it will work with.

thanks for sharing. FWIW, the destroyer could not have removed the serial #. it's programmed to look for password signatures only, and the serial isn't stored anywhere near the password.

Hi,

Mac Book Air A1466 EMC2623
Used EFI Destroyer with v4.02 Adapter
Battery Disconnected
MagSafe Connected
Had to Alternate between Battery connected and Magsafe Connected (Exactly how the Instructions Mentioned)
Worked to Remove Password
Bypassed EFI Password Successfully
Still Had iCloud Lock
Could Install Windows 10 64 Bit
Re-Installing OSX from Internet resulted in iCloud Lock Again
Performed NVRAM reset Could Install OSX via Internet and all OK.
