I have 2 A1502 machines.
1- 2.6ghz i5 mid 2014 board nr. 820-3476-a 4278u processor. Liquid damage. Board dead. 256ssd encrypted

2- 2.6ghz i5 late 2013 board nr. 820-3476-a 4288u processor Liquid damage. Repaired, starting up with question mark folder. EFI password.

I have soldering skills, but I don't have a eprom programmer.
Can I use the chip from the dead board on the EFI locked machine?
Is it possible to format and use the encrypted ssd?

Sorry for stupid questions.
I have experience with board level repair, but I'm a noob wit EFI.

I think on both questions answer - yes. BIOS-s identical for same models and you can take flash chip from dead board. But it may have EFI password too since it has encrypted disk. Usually users who are use a full disk encryption setup EFI password as well.
Encrypted disks may be reused. You just need reformat it.

I swapped the chip. I know there is no efi password set on it.
The machine boots to the login screen, but the response seems very slow. Mouse cursor freezes.
Did pram reset. Still slow.

For removing the sad encryption, I will probably need a adapter?

Several variables like PchInit, Setup, SetupDefaults set in EFI environment and can not be changed by PRAM reset. Because this procedure delete data for one UUID only. Probably it is a reason, but we need to know what that data is exactly. But it may be consequence of the physical damage. Well without programmer it is a guessing.
You can reformat encrypted disk installed in machine, just boot from USB flash and launch Disk Utility before fresh system installation.

Thank you. Will invest in a programmer. Will need to do my homework on efi programming first. So far it looks like reading the dump with hex editor might be the way to go?

Re ssd: I've got a bootable external with Yosemite on it. Disk utility won't let me format without providing the encryption password.
Any way around that?

Are you tried to delete a partition or change a partition schema before format?

Yes, I did. Will order a adaptor and try MacDrive or another programme from windows.

The processor on the 2 machines is slightly different, maybe thats why swapping the ic doesn't work.

Yea i think there is a mismatch happening that has got your system in an inconsistent state. The best thing to do is to not damage the chips you have and get a raspberry pi and follow my tutorial on reading the chips. Place the firmware here and either myself or token.paul can help clean it for re flashing. You will need to place the original chips back on their respective boards
