I assume you are now in and its working?
If so, that is great and no problem
btw:
I find that HxD hex editor within windows works great, easy to search for the $SVS and just FF out everything after until you reach the start of the next FF FF FF FF etc
HxD also lets you compare two files with each other
I can get to user or guest login... i can login guest, but limited options , not able to restore os..(filevault?) .. any way around this to do fresh install? Apple dummy here!

?
There are plenty of ways to bypass user accounts/passwords within osx
command line creation of a new administrator or just start from fresh
Make a osx install boot thumb drive or dvd "google it" and press & hold the options key when you power on
Go into disk utilities, delete current partition and then install a fresh OS
you could always try the option key OR R key for recovery mode without the boot media and provide a wifi connection
But if you have a laptop that is tied to someones icloud account, that may be an issue when it connects to apple prior to the os install.
Using local install media will let you instal the OS without internet connections, then place it under your apple itunes account.
At this point I am uncomfortable with providing any further assistance as it seems the ownership of this laptop maybe in question?
You have my apologies if my concerns are unwarranted
The ownership of the pc isn't the problem. When my wife left me and I wouldn't allow her to return for anything until the lawyer talked to her, she must of talked to one of her friends and found out how to lock them all! Now that I want in them she is holding this over my head. But anyways, I tried the thumb drive setup and all, but it get half way through the install and stops. No recovery option available with options-r. Thats why I ask that file-vault is activated. She know what she is doing.. I don't.
Thanks for your help.. greatly appreciated .

It may also help to install osx on an external drive, even a usb drive to provide yourself a clean platform to work from with admin privileges
Then work on the internal flash ssd if all else fails, the flash drives are replaceable
Disk 0 is the disk
If I format that in windows and put back in Mac.. will mac recognize it and allow me to reinstall software or will I be in the same boat as now?

... got everything working. I have a lot to learn about Linux based systems. I really never knew much about them, but the more I learn, I like them. A lot more "efficient" then windows. ( Terminal vs. Cmd) Thank you for the help!
