I'm getting ready to dump my flash and I was wondering, is the serial number plainly visible in ascii in the hex editor or do I need to know the exact offset?

Device: MBP 2013
Model: A1424
EMC: 2672

Also I'm using 0xED, which should be suitable unless someone can recommend something better.

Yea, you'll find your serial number in the hex file. Just search for it.

0xED is a native OS X hex editor based on the Cocoa framework. You might also like UltraEdit. UltraEdit is the ideal text, HTML and HEX editor, and an advanced PHP, Perl, Java and JavaScript editor. Hex Fiend is another decent hex editor.

If I helped you buy me a latte!

IHex for life.

If you downloaded the firmware from the repo try searching for Model-Number in ascii

I have downloaded 2672 - 13 MBP 2013 i5 2.6.bin from the repo

I tried with 0xED iHEX and HexFiend(looks identical to iHEX) and 'Model' doesn't show up at all.

I do find
0x690472 ssnSERIALNUMBERhwcFFRPsonME662S/EOF

and what looks like the serial at 0x7FFF08

My clip set is on the way so I haven't dumped my own chip yet.

Apologetically, we have become less strict about analyzing and preparing the dumps.

You will find some that also have the original serial in them /-:
