Hey. When you worked with them for the T470, do you recall if you were able to just simply connect a programmer to the eeprom or did you have to desolder the chip to read it? Thanks

Supposing you don't have a programmer yet, buy an EZP2010 programmer with SOIC-8 clip, with this programmer you will be able to read/write bios chip without having to desolder it. Have used this setup many times myself and also while giving support to customers.

Other programmer that will work too is CH341A, but the software that comes with it usually corrupts the reading or the chip contents when writing, so a workaround for this is to use FlashROM.

You'll pay a bit more for the EZP2010 but you'll save some time and having to deal with CH341A.

Hey @drgn997 . Thanks for the info! I have a TL866 plus. I find that some chips in some models (ThinkPad P50 for example) can be clamped onto to read without hassle, while others (Dell 5480) require that the chip is de-soldered to read.

You're saying that the units you mentioned might get around this issue?

I've tested it with EZP2010, and with CH341A through some of my customers without having to desolder chip.
In regards to TL866ii plus programmer a customer reported as not working to read/write chips while soldered to motherboard, haven't tested myself; but if you've used it with ThinkPad P50 then it should work with other ThinkPad too, as all of them have a similar design around bios chip AFAIK or seen.

Yes, reading/writing chips while still soldered to motherboard depends on it's design, I've had the same problem while using EZP2010, sometimes I just use the clip and other times have to disconnect 3 signals  from programmer (Vcc, WP and HOLD) and use motherboard supply to read/write chips (for example: Inspiron 3521).... and other times I end up having to desolder chip.

 CH341A works good but only with software v1,34 , earliers versions ar sucks
